Ownership

Ownership explained

This is the most important page on this website. It sets out exactly what you are buying, in plain English, without marketing language. If anything here is unclear, email hi@ivevex.com before you purchase.

What you are buying

You are buying a documented share of a numbered edition of a digital artwork created by Ivevex FZC LLC. The artwork is a finished creative work - not a claim, a contract or a promise of a future asset. What makes the purchase meaningful is the documentation: a fixed edition size, a fixed share count, a permanent register entry and a certificate that can be produced years later.

How editions work

Every work is released in editions. An edition is a numbered instance of the work - Edition 1 of 12, for example. The edition size is fixed at publication and never increased. When an edition is fully allocated, the next edition of the same work opens. Edition numbers are sequential and are printed on your certificate.

How shares work

Higher-value works are divided into a fixed number of shares per edition, so that co-ownership is possible at a sensible price. The share count per edition is fixed and published. Your ownership percentage is calculated against that fixed number - not against the shares that happen to remain unsold - so the percentage on your certificate does not change as the rest of the edition sells.

If an edition runs out mid-purchase

If you buy more shares than an edition has remaining, the balance is allocated from the next edition of the same work. Both allocations are recorded, and your certificate lists each edition and share range separately. You are never charged for shares that cannot be allocated.

How certificates work

A certificate is issued for every completed purchase, at the moment payment is confirmed. It carries a unique reference in the format IV-YYYY-XXXX-XXXX and records the buyer name, the buyer email, the work, the edition, the allocated share range, the ownership percentage, the amount paid and the timestamp. The certificate can be viewed and downloaded as a PDF immediately after purchase, and re-issued on request from the same underlying record - the reference number never changes.

Certificates are records of a purchase from IveVex. They are not bearer instruments and cannot be transferred by handing the file to someone else. See Certificates explained.

Not an investment

IveVex sells artwork. We do not sell exposure to a market. We make no claim, direct or implied, that a purchase will hold or increase in value, and we will not publish resale prices, indices or performance figures. Customers should treat a purchase as discretionary spending on a cultural object, in the same way they would treat buying a print.

Transfers and inheritance

Records can be re-registered to a new named holder on written request from the current holder, subject to identity verification. IveVex does not price, broker or facilitate any payment between the parties, and charges no fee for the re-registration itself. In the event of death, an executor may request re-registration on production of appropriate documentation.
