The reference number
References use the format IV-YYYY-XXXX-XXXX, where YYYY is the year of issue. The reference is generated once, stored with the record, and is identical on every copy of the certificate - on screen, in the PDF, and in any re-issue. If two documents show different references, they describe two different purchases.
Downloading and re-issuing
The certificate is shown immediately after purchase and can be saved as a PDF from that screen. If you lose the file, email hi@ivevex.com from the address used at purchase, or quote your payment reference. A re-issue is generated from the same register entry and carries the same reference number and the same issue date.
Verification
Today, verification is performed by IveVex: we check the reference against the ownership register and confirm, in writing, whether it is genuine and what it records. We respond to verification requests within two business days.
We intend to publish certificate references to a public blockchain so that verification no longer depends on us being available to answer. That capability is not live. Until it is, we do not describe any certificate as on-chain, and no work sold to date has been minted. See Why blockchain.
